Fernhalt makes trail shoes for the part of the map that's only contour lines. Built in the hills, tested in the bog, sold to people who leave the path on purpose.

The Scree 1 bites into loose rock, sheds bog in four strides and still lands soft at kilometre ninety.

TAKE IT APART

FIVE PARTS.
ZERO FILLER.

Every part of the Scree 1 earned its place on a hillside. Scroll and it comes apart in your hands.

  1. UPPER

    Ripstop that drains.

Double-woven where rocks bite, open where water wants out. Empties itself in eleven strides.

  2. SOLE

    A sole with two moods.

Soft foam under the heel for the descent, firmer under the toes for the climb back up.

  3. LUGS

    38 chevrons, 5 mm deep.

Angled for down as much as up, spaced wide so bog falls out instead of packing in.

  4. LACES

    Flat, waxed, stubborn.

They stay tied. We checked for a hundred kilometres and one very wet night.

  5. HEEL

    A cup that holds on.

A rigid counter that hugs your heel when the ground tilts sideways without asking.

FOUR GROUNDS · ONE SHOE

MUD. SCREE.
ROOT. SNOW.

  • MUD

Wide-set lugs shed it before the next stride lands.

  • SCREE

A toe bumper that takes the hits so your toes don't.

  • ROOT

Rock plate under the forefoot, flex where you need it.

  • SNOW

Grip that bites crust and lets go of slush.

RUN BY REAL LEGS.

THE FIELD-TEST CREW · FOUR RUNNERS · ONE SEASON

Four runners, one season, every pair worn to the cord. Nothing ships until the crew has broken it first.

They run the Fernhalt 100 in every weather the hills can invent, then sit at the workbench and tell us what hurt.

BROKEN IN. NOT BROKEN.

  • A runner seen from behind on a summit cairn above a sea of clouds

    INES · 1 204 KM

  • A runner blurred by speed on a forest switchback

    TOBI · 986 KM

  • A runner kneeling by a mountain tarn to refill a flask, seen from behind

    MAREN · 1 071 KM

  • A runner with a headlamp climbing a ridge at night under red marker lights

    DEV · 857 KM

FIELD NOTES · WHAT THE CREW CHANGED

  1. Lugs went from 4 to 5 mm.

After Mudlark Bog ate two pairs in one morning.

  2. The heel cup got stiffer.

Maren rolled an ankle on Granite Stair. Never again.

  3. Laces went flat and waxed.

Dev re-tied his nine times on the night loop. Now zero.

KM000

One hundred kilometres. Six thousand four hundred metres up. The same pair, start to finish.

That's the test. The Scree 1 passed it. Your turn.
