Oiling oak today

Hudson · Since 2015

### From one oak bench in 2015 to 12 partner workshops

Nora trained as a furniture restorer and grew tired of pieces made to be thrown away. In 2015 she began selling oak benches built by a joiner friend.

Our four materials

## Four natural materials, chosen to wear in well

We work with oak, linen, wool and stoneware because they age kindly. Each comes from one of our 12 partner workshops, made in small batches.

### Solid oak, oiled

Joined and oiled by hand. A fresh coat once a year keeps the grain warm for decades.

### Washed flax linen

Washed until soft before it reaches you, and softer still with every wash after.

A beautiful speckled glaze and a good, steady weight. It is taller than I pictured, so measure your shelf first.

Low, sturdy and completely quiet when you turn over. The oak grain is lovely in morning light and the room feels calmer.

We bought six for the kitchen table. The paper-cord seats are comfier than they look and easy to keep clean.
