The studio on V\u00e6rnedamsvej is one long room with tall windows facing the street. The front is where customers try pieces on. The back, behind a low shelf of plants, is where everything is made. On a normal Tuesday, this is how the day goes.<\/p>\n

07:00: the kiln<\/h2>\n

Flasks that went into the kiln the night before are ready to cast first thing. Pouring is the noisiest, hottest part of the day, so we get it done before anyone else arrives. By eight, the week's raw castings are cooling on the bench.<\/p>\n

08:30: clean-up and filing<\/h2>\n

Each casting is cut from its tree, filed and sanded. This is quiet, repetitive work with coffee and the radio on. A hoop like Eira takes around forty minutes to bring from raw casting to pre-polish, because its hollow form has to stay perfectly even all the way round.<\/p>\n

10:00: doors open<\/h2>\n

We open to the public from Tuesday to Saturday, 10:00 to 18:00. Mornings tend to be calm: neighbours dropping off a ring for a re-polish, or someone collecting an order. Setting happens in between, at the stone-setting bench with the microscope, where nobody is allowed to bump the table.<\/p>\n

The best part of having the bench in the shop is that customers can see their ring being made. Nobody has to imagine it.<\/p>\n
